The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed all personnel within the Nigeria Police Force to wear black armbands for a week in mourning of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
It will be recalled that the Presidency on Wednesday confirmed the passing of Lagbaja after a battle with an undisclosed illness.
President Bola Tinubu ordered that the National Flag be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days to honour the late Army Chief.
In a statement released on Thursday by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP stated that all police officers would observe the seven-day mourning period by wearing black bands.
“This directive is a tribute to the late General, a leader who displayed gallantry, dedication, and an unyielding passion in the fight against violent crime and insurgency in Nigeria.
“He was a remarkable leader who deserves to be honoured in every possible way. May the soul of the late COAS rest in peace,” the statement read.
