Lagos 4th-term Speaker, Obasa impeached, Meranda takes over

- Ex-Speaker accused of gross misconduct, abuse of office
- House Clerk, Onafeko, also gets the boot
Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The lawmakers subsequently elected Mojisola Meranda, representative of Apapa I, as the new speaker.
The lawmakers also removed the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko
Meanwhile, armed personnel of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS; Lagos Task Force, and the Police have taken over the premises and environs.
They turned back motorists and persons from gaining access.
Obasa, was in a gestapo manner, impeached by members and announced his erstwhile deputy, Mojisola Meranda-Lasbat as substantive Speaker.
Onafeko was said to have been singlehandedly brought to the Assembly by Obasa.
Both were behind the ban on journalists covering the activities of the Assembly.
Some miscreants, who were trying to invade the complex, were intercepted and arrested by the security personnel and clamped into waiting Black Maria.
Charms and amulets were also recovered from the miscreants believed to be supporters of Obasa from Agege.
