As the fight against Lassa fever rages on in Ondo State, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC has disclosed its preparedness to support the state government in the eradication of the scourge.

The Director of Education, Health and Social Services of the Commission, Okejoto Gochua, made the disclosure during a courtesy call on the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,  in Akure, the state capital.

According to Gochua, items to be donated as support include two ambulances, Hilux van and protective kits.

He hinted that the commission through its consultants would also engage in educating the populace on the scourge.

‘It is the wish of the NDDC to support the government and people of Ondo and Edo States with the donations by conducting sensitization and advocacy programmes against the disease. This support aims to complement the state government’s efforts in the fight against Lassa virus to prevent further spread of the disease’, he said.

In his remarks, the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, lauded the NDDC for  its intervention programmes in the state which include the ongoing road project that would link the state with Lekki, Lagos State.

He pledged the cooperation of his government for the commission in the fight against Lassa fever in the state.

Noting that there was no vaccine for the disease yet, he called for precaution on the part of the public and health givers in particular while relating with people infected with the lassa fever virus.
