Lassa: Owo association distributes rat baits to residents

The All Owo Progressive and Development Association, aka The Forum has distributed over 11,000 pieces of rat baits across  towns in Owo Local Government Area.

Led by its President, Dr Yemi Mahmud, the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ondo State, The Forum visited Uso, Emure, Amurin, Iyere, Owo, Isuada Upenmen among other communities  to distribute the rat baits.

Also, the Forum visited Oja Oba and Oja Ojomo markets where the people were sensitized, and over 5,000 pieces of the rat baits were distributed to market women through the Iyaloja of Owo Kingdom and her Deputy.

Before the distribution of the baits in each of the communities, the Forum visited the Obas to pay obeisance where 5,000 pieces were given in each palace for onward distribution to the people.

The palaces visited included that of the Olowo of Owo, the Oloba of Uso, the Àlamunrin of Amurin, the Elemure of Emure and the Olupenmen of Ipenmen.

In her address, the President of The Forum, Dr Yemi Mahmud stated that the aim of The Forum, a leading Association in Owo Kingdom, is to complement the State Government in its bid to eradicate Lassa Fever in the  State.

It will be recalled that the  State Government distributed rat baits across Local Government areas of the state during which appeal was made to  the people to make the eradication of Lassa Fever a collective effort.

At the Mapo Hall where thousands of rat baits were distributed to market women and the community people, the  Commissioner for Health, Dr Ajaka commended The Forum for responding to the Government’s clarion call to collectively fight Lassa Fever in the state.

While asking for continued collaboration of The Forum with the State Government, the Commissioner appealed to all communities, spirited groups and individuals to emulate the gesture of The Forum in supporting the State Government.

Members of The Forum were out in their numbers to make the outing a success.
