Late Adebanjo for burial May 3

The family of Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, the respected nationalist, elder statesman, and leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has formally announced his burial arrangements.

Chief Adebanjo, who passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 96, will begin his final journey on April 30.

In a statement jointly signed by Mrs. Ayotunde Atteh (née Ayo-Adebanjo), Mrs. Adeola Azeez (née Ayo-Adebanjo) and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo, on behalf of the family, a series of activities have been outlined to honour the life, legacy and values of the late elder statesman.

According to the statement, “The final journey of the late Afenifere chief begins on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, with a Day of Tributes/Service of Songs, scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.”

The wake, the statement added, would be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s country home, Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The funeral service is slated for Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Phillips Anglican Church, Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The family further disclosed that the funeral ceremonies will conclude with a thanksgiving service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025, also at St. Phillips Anglican Church, Isanya Ogbo.
