Lawmaker advocates scrutinizing public expenses

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr. Najeem Salam has stressed the need for the legislative arm to be abreast and scrutinize any money spent by public offices.
The Speaker disclosed this during a meeting with officials of Osun Water Corporation in Osogbo.
He emphasized on the need for the provision of adequate water supply to the people of the state.
Salam who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Akintunde Adegboye stressed the need for the House to be abreast and scrutinize any money spent by public offices.
The Speaker said the parliamentarians owe the masses legislative duties, hence the need for adequate and sufficient potable water to be delivered to all and sundry uninterruptedly.
In his submission, the Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Hon. Debo Akanbi said comportment, disposition and human relations of the management of the Corporation were quite disgraceful.
This according to him led the House to carry out the oversight exercise.
In her presentation, the consultant of Ilesa water project, Engr. Tawakalitu Williams begged for the forgiveness of the House over the hurdles met in the cause of their oversight functions.
She said the water project is being handled by two contractors. According to her, laying of pipelines which is expected to provide 16 million litres daily for Ilesa dwellers is at advanced stage.
In his remarks, the General Manager of the Corporation, Engr. Olugbenga Owojuyigbe admitted the responsibility of the hurdles encountered during their visit to Ilesa.
