The creation of additional 33 LCDAs by the Ondo State Government has been described as a welcome development and as it has been long overdue.
This was the view of some residents of Akoko area of the state in their reactions to the new development.
According to them, this will bring the much needed socioeconomic development to the nooks and crannies of the state.
A former councillor in Akoko Northwest local government, Mr Seyi Ogundare, from Ese Akoko, lauded Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for making his promise to create additional local government a reality.
According to Ogundare, this will bring administration and development nearer to the grassroots.
A woman leader from Ikun Akoko, Mrs Anike Ologunofe, in her reaction, blamed the lack of social amenities and infrastructures in the rural areas on the size of the current council areas in the state.
According to her, many towns.and villages were combined to make a local government thereby making it difficult, if not impossible, for government to make amenities go round in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
An Ikare Akoko community leader, Chief Jamiu Olamomiara, was of the opinion that the newly created LCDAs can only be meaningful if given autonomous power to operate and deliver the mandate to the people.
The respondents were unanimous in calling on government to fast-track the programme for the benefit of the rural dwellers.
