The proposed creation of Council Development Aurthorities (LCDAs) by the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration in Ondo State has been described as the best thing to happen to the state at this time.
The State commissioner for Agriculture, Otunba Gboyega Adefarati stated this in a chat with newsmen in Akungba-Akoko at the weekend during the Medical Outreach programme to mark the 10th year exit of the former governor of the state, late Pa Adebayo Adefarati.
Gboyega, who is also the son of the late former governor, said the new LCDAs when created will bring government nearer to the people.
According to the Commissioner, it will also bring about more development and active participation of the people in governance.
“LCDAs bring development to the people. It brings government to the doorstep of the ordinary man in the communities where they are created”.
Reacting to some views of some people that this will create problems for the government because of paucity of funds, Gboyega posited that there will be no problem in running this LCDAs smoothly since the funds meant for the existing local government areas will be divided among the old council areas and the new LCDAs.
He therefore noted that nothing bad in the new development, saying it is not a novel idea since the late former governor; Pa Adefarati has done such before.
Similarly he stated that some states in the country, especially in the Southwest, like Lagos, Oyo and Osun states are already operating the system.
