Less than one week after the dissolution of all the 18 Local Government Interim/Caretaker Committees in Ondo state by the state House of Assembly,  the lawmakers yesterday held a closed doors meeting with all the Directors of Local government Administration (DLGAs) in the 18 council areas.

The meeting presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, had other lawmakers including the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Iroju Ogundeji,  the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Jamiu Maito among others in attendance.

It would be recalled that the hallowed chambers had on Thursday last week dissolved the interim/caretaker committees with immediate effect, while it also directed the caretaker chairmen to hand over the administration and management of the councils to their respective DLGAs.

The dissolution followed the expiration of the six months tenure extension earlier granted the former caretaker committees.

Speaking with The Hope, the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Jamiu Maito, said the leadership of the Assembly drew the attention of the DLGAs to the task of serving the people at the grass roots following the handing over of the affairs of the local governments to them by the immediate past caretaker chairmen.

Maito noted that it is imperative for the DLGAs to properly and adequately administer and run the affairs of the local governments pending the appointment or election of new local government helmsmen in the state.

He described the meeting as successful as so many issues necessary for the development of the council areas were discussed.

He said he has no doubt about the fact that the DLGAs who are experienced accounting officers will deliver on their new responsibilities as presiding officers of their respective local government areas.

Responding on behalf of the DLGAs, the Chairman of Conference of DLGAs and DLGA of Ondo West, Dr Tunde Monehin, assured the lawmakers of their readiness to effectively run the local government areas to ensure quality service delivery at the grass roots.
