LG boss orders clearing of waterways

In his bid to ensure efficient water transportation and improved fishing activities along the waterways, the Caretaker Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Mr. Otito Atikase has ordered the immediate clearing of waterways across the council area.

The council boss who was accompanied by his Supervisors to Alape junction, a link to Lagos State said it was expedient to make the waterways passable for travellers, especially people whose businesses are done through water transportation.

In his words: “Water hyacinth is an aggressive invader and can form thick mats if not deliberately cleared, hence it is very important to control the water hyacinth before the entire water surface is covered “.

In a similar vein, the Chairman issued public notice and ultimatum to owners of vehicles, wares and other belongings that were indiscriminately parked along major streets in Igbokoda which are causing gridlock to free flow of traffic to remove them or risk been impounded.

Atikase charged the people of Ilaje to be more steadfast in their support for the present administration led by Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), saying the government is poised to implement policies and programmes aimed at bringing growth and development to the state.
