The Chairman of Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC), Justice Jide Aladejana, has told the political parties in the state that the commission is ready to conduct free, credible and fair local government elections in the state.
Aladejana enjoined them to have confidence in the commission towards the conduct of credible local government poll scheduled to hold on December 7.
The EKSIEC chairman stated this on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti while addressing stakeholders meeting held with political parties, security agencies as well as other relevant agencies in the state.
Out of the 48 political parties existing in the state, 34 attended the meeting and were given guidelines of the elections.
The chairman who also solicited for the support of the political parties, assured them of credible poll. He said all their agitations ahead of the poll will be looked into by the commission for necessary consideration.
“We have listened to the contributions from all the representatives of the political parties present as well as the security agencies, we will comply and provide a level playing ground, we want to assure them that we will conduct credible polls,” he stated.
Aladejana enjoined all the political parties in the state to participate fully in the conduct of the election and urged them to shun activities that may jeopadise the smooth conduct of the exercise.
He disclosed that the commission had concluded plan to listen to all agitations from various sectors and provide possible solutions before the conduct of the exercise.
Among the issues discussed with the commission by the political parties include free and fair elections, reduction of tax clearance, monitisation of election and safety of the electorate among others.
Speaking at the meeting, the General Secretary, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Mr. Ifedayo Iyaniwura, said the meeting was convened to discuss grey areas bordering the political parties in respect of the forthcoming council polls, in the state.
Iyaniwura, who is also the State Chairman of the National Democratic Liberty Party (NDLP) said the political parties in attendance demanded from the EKSIEC free and fair elections.
