The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter has said the postponement of the Local Government election from December to February next year was because of the readiness of its participatation in the election.
The Director, Media and Publicity of the party, Mr Leye Igbabo said the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state was not fully prepared for the election until his party showed interest which will not allow business as usual for the ruling party.
Igbabo said when PDP boycotted election in the past, the ruling party was always having a field day and doing as it liked as there was no stiff opposition.
According to him: ” The last election when we did not participate, and that was why they did what they wanted to do because there was no stiff opposition, that is why I laughed when I hear people say PDP is dead, the last time they conducted similar election, we boycotted but the moment we said we will participate, it became a nightmare for them and that is why they kept on changing the date.
” They first said it will be conducted in December and later was postponed to February, only God knows if it will take place by February, because we are involved, our involvement indicates that they cannot do anything unwholesome, they know we cannot allow them and that is what is called opposition,” he stated.
While responding to an opinion by some people said that PDP is not acting as a true opposition, Igbabo said opposition is not about kicking, protesting or carrying cutlass but to criticise constructively.
” It is not our duty to carry cutlass and chase them out of the government house , if that is what it means to be an opposition, we are not going to do that .
“We don’t blackmail, we don’t tell lies or protest anyhow but we criticise constructively, we don’t tell lies because the truth will come out one day, we don’t have to churn out propaganda because we are the opposition, our own is to watch the government and where they are erring, we call them to other, this is the job of an opposition,” he said.
