The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC, has presented the Certificates of Return to three candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, declaring them elected councilors for three wards in the re-run councillorship elections in two Local Government areas of the State.
The newly elected councillors in the Wednesday re-run election include Sherifat Adepoju for Ward 5 lgoba/lsinigbo; Adejoke Oluwafemi for Ward 6 Eleyowo/ Bolorunduro/llu-Abo in Akure North Local Government and Kehinde Lawal for lgbara-Oke Ward 2 in lfedore Local Government area of the state.
They were presented the Certificate of Returns having scored the lawful votes in the elections.
Presenting them the Certificate of Returns, the Chairman of ODIEC, Prof. Yomi Dinakin, confirmed the receipt of the results for the elections.
He said the process for the elections was set according to law and commended the returning officers for the perfect delivery of the election results.
The chairman in an interview with journalists described the election as peaceful exercise, saying that whoever does not satisfy with the outcome of the poll has right to challenge the election at the court of law.
Earlier, the Returning Officers for the three Wards declared Adepoju, Oluwafemi and Lawal elected and returned having scored lawful votes of 1340, 1081 and 2366 to beat their closest rivals in Action Alliance with 147 votes, Babatunde Falaiye of the Social Democratic Party who scored 197 votes and the African Democratic Congress, ADC who polled 897 votes respectively.
It would be recalled that the re-run election was due to the inconclusive elections declared in four wards of three local governments which include ward 9 lkun Akoko Southwest Local Government in the August 20, 2020 chairmanship and councillorship elections in the state.
The emerged councillor for ward 9 lkun Akoko Southwest Council, Mr Kehinde Obasanmi had been issued Certificate of Return in August this year as duly elected councillor for the ward following the court order.
