In it efforts to ensure efficient service delivery, Ondo State Local Government Commission (LGSC) has trained its administrative officers on speech writing and reporting.

The training was organized to nurture the officers saddled with the responsibilities of steering the ship of the Local Government Service in the day to day administrative duties in other to develop their capacity for the challenges ahead.

The one Day Capacity Building Workshop themed “ Fundamentals of Speech Writing, Reporting and Minuting in Administration”, was held in Akure.

Declaring the workshop open, Chairman of the commission, Femi Idris said the event is dynamic in that it is aimed at not only exposing the participants to the nitty-gritty of their job but to further stress their indispensable roles.

He said, “There is no gain-saying that the commission places high premium on the Administrative Cadre in the Local Government Service.”

 Idris noted that the theme of the workshop was timely, given the current political landscape of the state and on the backdrop of the resent signing into law the bill of the creation of Local Government  of Development Area in the state, which inadvertently comes with its challenge in administrative management and responsibility.

“A glance at the theme aptly encapsulates the pivotal and critical roles expected of the administrative officer in the Local Government Service.

In his welcoming address, the Permanent  Secretary of the commission, Mrs. A. Ogunsola  represented by the Director, Local Government Administration, Azikwe Perete said the commission considered the training imperative in order to widen participants’ knowledge of speech writing in their day to day activities.

She admonished participants to justify the resources expended on the workshop by their improved performance on the job and make best use of the privilege.

One of the resource persons, the Public Relations Officers, of Adekunle Ajasin University, AAUA Sola Imoru in his lecture, themed ‘Fundamentals of Speech writing: Steps and Element in writing good Speech’, noted that speech writing is a specialized skill which participants must strive to acquire to satisfy his or her principal.

He said it is important for a speech writer to consider his target audience so as to appeal to their acoustic relevance so that they can benefit from it.

He added that because speech writing is an organization-public engagement tool, it must be taken seriously as it’s success or failure can make or mar the boss or organization.
