Local swimmer recovers bodies of drowned EKSU students

By Victor Akinkuolie, Ado-Ekiti

A local swimmer in Ero Community, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, confirmed on Monday the recovery of the bodies of two Ekiti State University (EKSU) students who drowned in Ero Dam, Ikun-Ekiti.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr. Sunday Abutu, stated that the first body was recovered on Sunday, while the second was retrieved around 10:45 a.m. on Monday.

Abutu explained that the bodies were discovered floating on Ero Dam and were immediately evacuated to the morgue of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti.

He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Tragedy struck over the weekend when two undergraduate students of EKSU, identified as Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, both 300-level students of the Department of Theatre Arts, drowned while swimming in the dam.

According to eyewitnesses, the victims had accompanied their colleagues and supervisor to Igogo-Ekiti in the Ero Local Council Development Area (LCDA) for a research project and rehearsals.
After the assignment was completed and the supervisor departed with the team, the two students reportedly stayed behind.

They later went to Ero Dam for sightseeing and recreational swimming but tragically drowned in the process. The news of their deaths spread rapidly within the university, plunging the institution into deep mourning.
