Two women have been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting police officers while enforcing lockdown order.
The women; Saliu Rufiat, 22 and Tosin Babatunde who were charged for assault and breach of peace committed the offence on July 11, 2020 around 7:31pm breweries express, Ilesa.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Moses Adebayo told the court that the duo failed to obey COVID-19 lockdown order by the state government.
He disclosed that the accused persons assaulted Sgts. Dayo Akinro and Olatiran Olasebikan by using a stick to hot them on the head and inflicted injury on them.
He said that the accused persons did conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by raining abusive words on police officers and other security agents.
The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Sections 61, 516, 356, 355 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Laws of Osun state 2002.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge against them by the police.
Defense counsel, Kehinde Adepoju prayed the court to grant his clients bail in most liberal term promising they will not jump bail.
In her ruling, Magistrate Modupe Awodele granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.
She thereby adjourned the case till July 20, 2020 and transferred the case to Ilesa Magistrate court.
