Lookman’s market value skyrockets to N90bn
By Andrew Ekejiuba
Just few days after being crowned African Footballer of the Year, Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman reached a career-high market value of fifty-five million euros (approximately N90 billion in Nigerian currency) according to football statistics and transfer market website, Transfermarkt in their recently updated market values of players in the Serie A.
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated using various pricing models, with the most important factors being a player’s future prospects, age, performance at both club and national team levels, and the number and reputation of interested clubs.
Hero of Atalanta’s Europa League triumph back in May, Lookman has picked up where he left off last season, scoring eleven goals and setting up five more in nineteen all-competition appearances.
On the international stage, he started all the Super Eagles’ games in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, scoring a brace against Benin’s Cheetahs in September.
Lookman, who was valued at €40 million before the latest update, has overtaken Victor Boniface to become the second most valuable Nigerian player.
The Charlton Athletic Academy graduate has been linked with French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabian clubs but a deal is unlikely to go through in the January transfer window, as Atalanta remain in contention for the Champions League, Coppa Italia and Serie A titles.
Signed from RB Leipzig in August 2022, Lookman is contracted to Atalanta until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
