Ondo state Board of Internal Revenue has disclosed that it will start sealing properties of those who defaulted in paying for the Land Use Charge immediately after the elections.
The chairman of the Board, Mr Tolu Adegbie made this known in a chat with The Hope in Akure.
Adegbie said that affected persons are those who had been served ‘due to seal’ notice which had exceeded the 30 days altimatum.
This, he said was contained in the law of the Land Use Charge to seal such properties after 30days of serving the notice to seal.
The Land Use Charge Law section 23 subsection 2 stipulates “Notwithstanding the provisions of this Law, the Board of Internal Revenue shall have power to seal up any property over which the applicable charge remain unpaid after 30days of serving notice of demand”
Adegbie noted that the board has been counting days for defaulters who he said had been informed about the enforcement to seal when the date is due .
“The law is 30days and I had advised everybody to go and pay before January ending and this is February.”, he said.
According to him, many bills and notifications had been served severally and defaulters cannot claim ignorance and concequencies of such notices
His word: “In fact, I told my people to go round again in all the places where they said they did not have the bill, to serve them another round of the bill including those who did not bother to visit the board”.
