Maintain good relationships with communities, Companies charged

Ondo State House of Assembly has advised companies operating in the State to maintain good working relationship with host communities and take the welfare of its workforce as priority.
The Chairman, House Committee on Natural Resources, Akintomide Akinrongunde gave the advice during an inspection tour to some foreign based companies located in the Southern Senatorial District of the state .
Mr. Akinrongunde noted that both should be seen as critical stakeholders for peaceful co-existence and mutual benefits.
He cautioned the companies not to treat Ondo State residents and other Nigerians working in the companies as second class citizens, stressing that their welfare must be adequately protected.
He, however, appreciated the companies for contributing to the boosting of the state’s economy and assured them of Legislative support for their operations.
Other members urged the companies to integrate more youths of the State into their system, as well as initiate and execute impactful projects for the host communities.
Responding, the Mananging Director JHL Plywood Company, Okitipupa , Mr. Jessi Lin while appreciating the lawmakers for their visit, explained that the company which is a Chinese-owned was primarily into plywood production.
He appreciated Ondo State, particularly the host Community for providing enabling environment to operate.
At Wewood Nigeria Limited, a Chinese company, in Odigbo LGA, the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wale Omolayo explained that the company deals in cassava, ethanol, plywood and tiles production, with a staff strength of 1,200
The MD Orbit Wood and Allied Industries Ltd, in Ondo East Local Government, Mr. Bright Koko appealed for more hectres of land to grow trees which he said was their only challenge.
Executives of Dele Wood Company, and Hope Wood Company told the committee that they would continue to adhere to the provisions of Natural Resources Acts, by paying their taxes promptly, avoiding exploration of the environment, creating jobs for the youths among others.
