Man, 21, jailed for stealing

A 21-year-old man, Lekan Usman has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment by an Osogbo Magistrate Court for burglary and stealing property worth N161,500.

In her verdict, Magistrate Mary Awodele sentenced Usman after he pleaded guilty to charge of burglary and stealing.

She said the jail term should run consecutively or the convict should pay N5,000 on each of the three-count charge.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Rasak Olayiwola, told the court that the convict committed the offence in May 1, 2020 around  3 a.m. at Aiyepe area in Osogbo.

Olayiwola said the convict broke into the apartment of one Mr Adebayo Olalekan and stole his valuables before he was apprehended.

He said the convict stole two Tecno phones valued at N62,000, one Infinix hot 8 phone valued at N36,000, one Infinix Hot 4 phone valued at N35,000, one small Itel phone worth N3,500 one, Laptop valued at N25,000 , total value at N161,500.

The prosecutor narrated told the court,” The convict was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment due to the injuries he sustained during the burglary. But he later escaped before he was re-apprehended.”

He said the offences he committed contravened sections 135 (b), 390 (9), 412 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
