Detectives of the Ondo State Police command have apprehended a 23-year-old labourer, identified as Monday Friday, for alleged murder of his brother.

The suspect allegedly killed the deceased, identified as Emeka John, by hitting him with a wood on his head on their way home from a party on May 10, 2024, at about 1am at Leege Village via Kajola.

According to a source, the suspect and the deceased were said to have left home for a party in a neighbouring camp on the day of the incident.

The source said: “The suspect who returned alone claimed that he did not know the whereabouts of the deceased.

“The following day, the lifeless body of the deceased was found by the bush path with his head badly wounded.”

The suspect who was arrested, later confessed that he knew the cause of the deceased’s death, saying they were drunk at a beer party, and on their way home from the place, a log tipper crushed him to death.

Following his arrest, Monday was subsequently arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court on one count charge of murder.

Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere informed the court that Monday committed the offence on May 10 at 1 midnight, and killed John by hitting him with wood.

The charge reads in part:“That you, Friday Monday, aged 23, on May 10, 2024, at about 1 am, at Leege Village via Kajola in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did kill one Emeka John (M), by hitting him with a wood on his head while conveying him to Modebioayo Camp.”
