Man, 24, arraigned over goat theft

A 24-year old man, Damilola Akinloye, has been arraigned before an Ore Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing and killing a goat valued at N70,000.
The police brought the defendant before Senior Magistrate C. E. Ijeh on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and conspiracy.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on September 16, 2024, at about 3:30 a.m. at Lamudifa Village, near Ore, Ondo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Amuda, told the court that the defendant and others at large stole and unlawfully killed a brownish-coloured goat valued at N70,000, the property of one High Chief Omotoye Omoniyi.
The offences contravened Sections 516A(1), 390(9), and 450 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.
Inspector Amuda prayed for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and gather witnesses for the trial.
In her ruling, Senior Magistrate C. E. Ijeh admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until January 27, 2025, for hearing.
