A 26-year-old man, Omotayo Odutola has been arraigned before an Odigbo Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault.

The defendant was brought before Chief Magistrate B. A Ikusika on two counts bothering on assault

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on May 24, 2023 at Step Down Junction Lagos Benin Expressway Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Amuda informed the court that the accused conspired with his father, One Odutola to assault a lady, one Oluwatoyin Olowojesiku by beating her with fist blow and cause injury to her two eyes

The offence contravenes Section 516, 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence levelled against him

Amuda prayed for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and enable him to gathered his witnesses for trial.

The defence counsel led by V. A Akinfe did not oppose application made by the prosecutor, but prayed the court to grant the accused person bail on most liberal terms.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application made by the defense counsel, saying, if eventually granted bail, the life of the complainant would be threatened.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Ikusika admitted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 naira with two sureties in like sum

He ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail

He thereafter, adjourned the case till June 2, 2023.
