Man, 30, docked for alleged car theft

A middle-aged man, Esezebor Joel, has been dragged before an Akure Magistrates’ court for alleged stealing of a car.
The 30-year-old defendant was accused of stealing one Toyota Sienna bus valued at N1,250.000, property of one Olaniyi Aruwayo.
He was alleged to have stolen the vehicle at about 9:30pm along Lagos/Ore Expressway in the Akure magisterial district, on October 6, 2018 and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code cap 37.Vol. I laws of Ondo State 2006.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Adebayo Suleiman, called three witnesses of which two were in court. He prayed the court to grant him short adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble all witnesses.
Counsel to the accused, Barrister Olaniran Oladapo did not object to the prosecution application. But he applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1.5milion with two reasonable sureties in like sum. She said they must produce two passport photographs and evidence of tax payment of the current year.
She adjourned the matter till November 15, 2018 for hearing.
