Man, 35, charged with car theft

A 35-year-old man, Adejumoke Gbadebo, has been arraigned before a Modakeke Magistrates’ Court over alleged car theft.

Gbadebo was said to have committed the offence on July 4, 2019 around 11a.m at Oke-Dio area, Modakeke-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Ona Glory, told the court that the accused person stole one Honda CRV car with number plate PR 233 KJA, engine no:.B20B4066809 and Chassis No: JHLRD 1855 UC811545, valued at N600,000, property of one Dr Nelson Aguiyi.

He added that the defendant forged the sales agreement and changed the ownership of the Honda CRV car.

The prosecutor said the accused person breached the trust reposed on him by defrauding and converting Aguiyi’s Honda car to his own without any authority.

The offence contravened sections 383, 390(10a) 434, 463 and 467 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the three counts bothering on stealing, forgery and fraud.

The defence counsel, Mr Philip Fasanmoye, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term, and pledged that his client would not jump bail.

The presiding Magistrate, Muhibah Olatunji, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N750,000 with one surety in like sum.

Olatunji added that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and must be a close relation.

The magistrate stated further that the accused person must provide three years tax clearance certificate and three recent passport photographs.

The case was adjourned till September 30, 2019 for hearing.
