Man, 40, docked for manslaughter

A 40-year-old farmer, Ola Dada, has been dragged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, over the death of a 56-year-old man, Akinola.
Dada, the driver of a Honda motorcycle with number plate Ondo NND 489 QA, drove dangerously on the public highway which caused the death of the deceased.
The defendant committed the offence on November 11, 2022, at about 6 am at Sabo road, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District.
The prosecution said the offences contravene sections 4 and 3 and punishable under sections 7(1), 9(2), 18 and 34 of the Road Traffic Laws, Cap 136, Volume 3, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The defendant is now facing a five -count charge bothering on serious motorcycle/pedestrian accident. But he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecutor, Mr Benard Olagbayi, told the court that he would call two witnesses to testify in the case, and applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
The lawyer for the defendant, Barrister S. A Iluyemi, applied for the bail of the accused in most liberal terms.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
She said the surety must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must present recent passport photographs and valid I.D card for identification.
Adeyanju adjourned the case till December 20, 2022 for trial.
