Man, 64, docked over property damage

A 64-year-old man, Michael  Ayilegan, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court, over alleged malicious damage of a building and materials.

The defendant is standing trial on two counts of malicious and unlawful damage.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Folasade Adeyemi, the defendant committed the offence on February 8 and 9, at about 7pm, along Aseyori via Ijare, Ifedore local government area.

Adeyemi said Michael maliciously damaged a building under construction worth N3,700,000, planks worth N1,700,000, blocks worth N750,000 and windows valued at N210,000, properties of one Orimoloye Stanley.

The offences contravene Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. 1 of Ondo State 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences leveled against him while his counsel, Oluwole Adeyemi, prayed the court for the bail of the defendant.

 Magistrate G.T Omoyajowo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties and the case has been adjourned to February 29, 2024.
