Man arraigned for alleged N3m fraud

A 34-year-old man, Anthony Godday, has been dragged before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding a Point of Sale (POS) operator of the sum of N3 million.
The accused, whose residential address was not provided, is facing charges of fraud and stealing.
Police prosecutor Nelson Akintimehin informed the court that between April 26 and May 17, 2024, at Shasha Market, Akure, the defendant allegedly swindled one Regina Peter of N3 million.
The money was said to have been transferred into the defendant’s Moniepoint account (No. 6582141617), under the guise of supplying cash.
Instead of fulfilling the agreement, the accused reportedly diverted the funds for personal use, a violation of Sections 390(8) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Godday, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adedapo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with one surety in like sum.
The case has been adjourned to January 29, 2025, for hearing.
