A middle-aged man, Mishrek Sunday, has appeared before an Ondo State High Court  sitting in Akure, over alleged rape, robbery and attempt to murder a woman.

The  Police arrested the defendant for attempting to kill one Folakemi Ojo, after he had succeeded in raping and robbing her of her phone and money.

Sunday was charged with four counts of raping, wounding, armed robbery and attempted  murder.

The state counsel, B. Olarenwaju told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 3, 2020 at about 7:30pm at Arakale junction, Akure.

Olarenwaju said the defendant raped the woman and robbed her of her Techno Spark 5 phone and the sum of N100,000

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant wounded the victim with broken tile, inflicting a deep cut on her neck while he left her half dead.

The offences, according to the charge contravene Sections 357,358, 320(1) and (2) of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006 and 359, 411 and 2 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RIl, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

After the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor told the court  she has already  listed five witnesses to testify against the defendant.

The defendant’s counsel, did not raise had any objection to the application.

Hence, the judge, Justice Yemi Fasanmi adjourned trial till May 3, this year.

Pending the trial, the defendants was remanded at the Olokuta  Correctional Centre where he has been since his arrest.
