A man, Adeleke Ogundare has been arraigned before an Akure High Court for allegedly raping a 13- year-old girl in Isolo area of Akure metropolis.
According to the prosecution led by one O.F Olatunji Esq, the accused person allegedly admitted raping the minor on three occasions; between December 2018 and February, 2019.
The charge brought against Ogundare before the court, stated that he also indecently assaulted the victim (names withheld).
The prosecution said, the accused person lived in the same house as the victim’s grandmother; a trader who leaves home early for local market and comes back late.
The little girl was said to be vulnerable, as she was the only one living with her grandmother.
Ogundare was alleged to have been enjoying intimate relationship with the young girl for sometime, while he always gave her contraceptives to prevent pregnancies.
He, however, told the police when he was arrested that he did not force the girl and that the grandmother was aware of the affair between them.
He claimed that he had been buying underwears, for the young girl while the grandmother, who knew about the gifts, approved of their relationship.
The accused person, after a mild drama in which he claimed not to understand the charge which was translated to Yoruba in accordance with his preferred language had later entered a “not guilty” plea.
An officer of the legal Aid council, Mr Seun Asake, appeared for the accused person.
Consequently, the prosecution had applied for an adjournment date for definite hearing.
The presiding judge, Justice Samuel Bola, thereafter, adjourned the case till July 22, 2019 for hearing.
