An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osun, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a middle-aged man, Samuel Adesakin, in prison custody for hitting the head of one Musibau Olowomojuore with hammer.
The 32-year-old accused, Adesakin, was arraigned before the court for committing the offence on February 26, 2019 around Esindale Street, Ile-Ife.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused person conspired with others still at large to assault Olowomojuore by hitting his head with hammer, thereby causing injury on his head.
Abdullahi said that the accused person unlawfully conducted himself in a manner that might likely cause the breach of peace by causing panic in the area.
According to him, the offence contravened sections 249 (d), 355 and 516 of the state Criminal Code.
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of assault, occasioning harm and breach of peace
Counsel to the accused person, Mr Sunday Akinyemi, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal term, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Olukunle Owolawi ordered that the accused person should be remanded in prison pending the ruling on the bail application.
He, therefore, adjourned the case till March 3, 2019 for ruling.
