Man arraigned over possession of gun

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town has ordered the remand of a 40-year-old man, Tope Oyewole, in Shegede prison, for having in his possession two wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp.
The accused was arraigned before the court on Monday, on two counts charge bothering on unlawful possession and threat to life .
Oyewole , who was also alleged of being in possession of two live catridges, which he could not give satisfactory account, was also said to intimidate and threatened one Yemi Akinbode with gun.
He was said to have committed the offence on March 8, 2019, contrary to and punishable under section 430 and 86 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Tope Oyewole on March 8, 2019 at about 9:00pm at Ogbonkowo area, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District did have in your possession, two live cartridges and two wraps of weeds suspected to be India hemp of which you could not give satisfactory account of and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 430 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
“That you Tope Oyewole on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did with intent to intimidate and threatened one Yemi Akinbode with gun and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
But Oyewole pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecutor, Charles Olagbayi, who told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Lawyer for the accused, Mr Abayomi Oladire applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, who refused to grant the accused bail, ordered his remand in prison custody.
She, adjourned the case till March 18, 2019 for consideration of bail and trial.
