A middle-aged man, Chukwuma Onwe has been arrested by operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly selling his 5-day-old son for N1.5 million.
Onwe was apprehended when his wife, Philomena Iroko, alerted her neighbour, who informed the police of the husband’s action.
The baby boy was said to have been sold to a woman, Chinyere Ugochukwu, who has also been nabbed by the police.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Ukandu disclosed that the baby had been recovered from the alleged buyer.
Ukandu said the father of the child was arrested alongside the alleged buyer at Azugwu area of Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Friday.
