Man bags jail term over theft

A 25-year-old man, Morakinyo Mayowa has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for stealing one motizer motor engine valued at N84,000.

Chief Magistrate Mosunmola Ikujuni, sentenced the convict after she found him guilty of the offence.

Mayowa was charged with one count of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akao Moremi said the convict committed the offence on May 29, 2024, at about 08:40pm at Ife Garage, Ondo.

The charge read in part,” That you, Morakinyo Mayowa, on May 29, 2024, at about 08:40pm at Ife Garage Ondo, in the Ondo Magisteria District, did steal one motizer motor engine valued at N84,000, property of one Robert Oluwole and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The prosecutor, Akao Moremi, therefore, prayed the court to sentence him according to his plea.

The convict who had no legal representation, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, promising to desist from such act.

Ikujuni, however,sentenced him to six months imprisonment with option of N150,000 fine.

Speaking during court sitting, the convict said:”I stole the motizer engine from a shop at Ife garage Sawmill. The door of the shop has already detached from its attachment when I got there.

” The wires were already disconnected. I stole it to sell to scavenger because he assured me that God will handle the situation if they catch me.”
