Man bags one year over stealing

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Oke-Eda has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Ekpenyong Asquo Emmanuel, to one year in prison for stealing.
The convict, Ekpenyong Asquo Emmanuel was said to have committed the crime at separate times between June 6, 2022 at Abuja andI Ibadan, lyamoye Kogi State and Ajowa Akoko, Ondo State.
Damilola Sekoni, the trial Magistrate, found the convict guilty based on evidence presented by the prosecution.
The convict was said to have stolen valuable items from different people.
The victims; Onwuecbuchi God’swill stole N10,800.00, a Nokia cell phone valued at N25,000.00 and Adeola Jimoh, stole N4,700.00, a wallet containing ATM cards and some sound equipment.
Oluwasegun Akeredolu, the prosecuting state counsel, said that the offence committed was in violation of Sections 383, 390(9), and 383 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws Ondo of Nigeria 2006,” the charge stated.
The court found the defendants guilty of stealing.
The lawyer for the convict, Iliyasu Musa pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
He pleaded with the court to give him another chance stating that he was first-time offender and has promised not to engage in such acts again.
The court found the defendants guilty of all charges and sentenced him to one years in prison without the option of fine.
