Man cheats death in Akure autocrash

By Bukola Olamona

A fatal accident was narrowly averted on Wednesday along the First Gate axis of the Oba-Ile Housing Estate in Akure, the Ondo State capital, involving a Toyota Corolla and a Dyna truck.

The crash, which occurred in the early hours of the day, involved a blue Dyna truck with registration number GWA 635 YC, reportedly belonging to a gas plant and a Toyota Corolla marked GGE 29 JK, said to be heading towards Akure.

An eyewitness who craved anonymity said the Dyna vehicle had just exited the gas station when it collided with the Toyota Corolla, which was approaching from the Akure end of the road at high speed.

She said, “I was driving from the town and had just turned at the intersection when I saw the crash happened. The Corolla was on the fast lane and was about to turn when the Dyna vehicle rammed into it forcefully.”

The impact of the collision left the Corolla badly mangled, with its driver seriously injured and bleeding profusely from the head and nose.

Policemen who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash were seen making frantic efforts to assess the situation and gather details on the incident.

They attempted to question the injured Corolla driver, but he was unable to speak due to the severity of his injuries.

As of the time of filing this report, the victim had been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while both vehicles remained at the scene.
