Man defrauds applicant seeking admission into NDA

An Ondo Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 27 -year-old man, Raymond Adegoke, in Segede correctional home, Ondo, for allegedly defrauding one Festus Benjamin, of his N1,700,000.
The defendant was brought before Chief Magistrate Toyin Olowookere, on a count charge of obtaining money under false pretence.
Adegoke was alleged to have obtained the sum of N1,700,000 in four installments from the complainant, under the false pretence to help secure his admission into the Nigeria Defence Academy(NDA) which he knew to be false.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence sometime between September and October, 2022, at about 11:30 am at Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District.
The alleged offence was said to be contrary to section 1(1) and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud Related offences Act, 2006.
The plea of the defendant was not taken.
The prosecutor, Supol Iyabo Omolara, prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), in the State Ministry of Justice.
Lawyer for the defendant, Mr S. A Iluyemi, did not oppose the remand application made by the prosecutor.
Magistrate Olowookere, therefore, granted the prosecutor’s application and ordered that the defendant be remanded.
She, however, adjourned the case till December 6, 2022, for legal advice.
