A 25-year-old man, Daniel Godwin, has been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to kill his friends after being accused of theft.
The police brought the defendant before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on a two-count charge bordering on threat to life and stealing.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on February 4, 2025, around 10:30 am in the Adaja area, via Odigbo in Ore.
Inspector James Usifoh, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant allegedly threatened to kill Adebayo Solomon Kunle and Adeoluwa Folasade after they accused him of stealing from their farm.
He further alleged that Godwin stole farm produce, including hot leaves and seeds worth N50,000, kolanut valued at N50,000, and cherry fruit worth N20,000, all amounting to N120,000, belonging to Adebayo Solomon Kunle.
The offences, he noted, contravened Sections 390(9) and 86 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following his plea, the prosecutor sought an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble witnesses for trial.
Defence counsel, Mr. V. A. Akinfe, did not oppose the adjournment but urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Akinlolu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till March 3, 2025, for mention.
