A middle-aged man, Oladejo Sodiq, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, for allegedly breaking into a church and stealing aluminium windows.

Sodiq was arraigned before Magistrate T.I. Ayodele on a two-count charge bordering on housebreaking and stealing.

The prosecutor, P.O. Nwafor, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 19, 2025, at about 6:30p.m in the Oke Aro area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

According to the prosecution, the defendant unlawfully broke into the premises of Christian Faith Gospel Mission Church and allegedly made away with four small aluminium windows valued at N200,000.

The offences violate Sections 383, 390 (9) and 415 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor told the court he would be calling two witnesses during trial and sought a short adjournment to allow time for proper review of the case file.

Counsel to the defendant, D.S. Omidera, who did not oppose the application, urged the court to admit his client to bail in liberal terms, promising that the accused would not abscond and would produce credible sureties.

Magistrate Ayodele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The court further directed that the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means, submit two recent passport photographs, and present valid tax clearance certificates.

However, Sodiq was ordered to be remanded in the custody of the Amotekun Corps pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
