Man docked for house breaking

A 28-year-old man, Semilore Olatuja has been dragged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town for breaking into the house of one Chinadu Obiyo with intent to commit felony.

 The police brought Olatuja before the court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing the property of the complainant Obijo, worth, N655,000:00.

The accused  who is facing two – count charge bothering on breaking into the house and stealing, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The defendant was said to have committed the offence on June 30, 2019 at about 12:30pm at Ade super road, Ondo, contrary to section 383(2)(a) and punishable under section 411(2) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The charge sheet read in part, “That you Semilore Olatuja on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal one Tecno power 67 valued at N44,000:00, one Tecno ponviour 2 valued at N44,000:00, Kamisase standing fan valued N12,500, one woman bag valued at N5,000:00, one Diamond ATM card, One first Bank ATM card, and the sum of N 500,000 total valued at N655,000 property of one Chinadu Obiyo and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383(2)(a) and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The police prosecutor, Charles Olagbayi, who told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must show evidence of payment of tax for the current year, attached affidavit of means, passport of the defendant and sureties must be attached also.

She adjourned the case till August 21, 2019 for trial.
