Man docked for land fraud

A 40-year old man, Gbenga Joseph has been arraigned in an Ile-Ife Magistrate Court over alleged land fraud.

The accused person was said to have committed the offence on June 14, 2019 at about 1:00 p.m. at Awolumate Opa Area in Ile-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused person unlawfully obtained N420, 000 from one Mrs Olayinka Odewande under the pretense of selling a plot of land to her.

He said the accused person collected N420, 000, cash from Odewande, but failed to show her the piece of land she paid for.

The accused person who pleaded not guilty was charged for fraud and stealing.

The offence contravened sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

In her ruling, Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that one of the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, while the other must be a civil servant on at least Grade Level 14.

The case was adjourned till December 16, 2019 for further hearing.
