Man docked for stealing cocoa beans

A 35-year-old man, Afeez Suleiman, has been remanded by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cocoa beans worth N40,000.

The accused person committed the offence with two other persons still at large on August 16, 2019 at Aba Oba Farm Settlement in Ile-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the accused person stole the cocoa beans, property of Mr Fadipe Omotayo.

The offence contravened the provisions of Section 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002

The accused person, whose address was not provided, was charged with theft and pleaded not guilty to the charge  against him.

Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, prayed the court to admit his client bail in the most liberal terms, promising that he would not jump bail.

The presiding Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi, remanded the accused person in the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ile-Ife, pending the determination of a sister case he has in another court.

The case was adjourned till September 20, 2019 for mention.
