A 39-year-old man, Izukama Anyanwu has been arraigned before an Odigbo Magistrates’ Court for threatening to kill a monarch
The defendant was brought before Senior Magistrate D. O Ogunfuyi on a two-count, charge of criminal intimidation and felony.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on April 9, 2023 at Agbabu Village, Ore Ondo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Usifo James told the court that the accused and others now at large violently threatened to kill one Damendra Abiodun, the Regent of Agbabu kingdom, with dangerous weapons such as guns, cutlass and set his palace ablaze.
The offence contravenes Section 516, 86 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence leveled against him
Usifo, therefore sought for an adjournment to enable him study the case file
The defence counsel, Mr V.A. Akinfe did not oppose application made by the prosecutor, but prayed the court to grant his client bail on most liberal terms
Senior Magistrate, D. O. Ogunfuyi admitted the defendant bail in the sum of 100,000 naira with two sureties in like sum
He ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail
He adjourned the case till June 22, 2023 for trial
