A middle-aged man, Ibrahim Adamu, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, on charges of kidnapping.
Adamu, who appeared before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, faces a single count of kidnapping, allegedly committed on April 24, 2025, at approximately 5:25 p.m. in Ogbese, Ondo State.
According to Police Prosecutor, DSP Msonter Shagba, the defendant unlawfully abducted one Favour James with the intention of demanding a ransom.
The offence, as outlined by the prosecution, violates Section 3 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010.
Adamu pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him in court.
Following his plea, the prosecutor requested that the defendant be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Magistrate Sekoni allowed Adamu the opportunity to secure legal representation should he wish to challenge the remand application.
In his ruling, the magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the Amotekun Corps until the matter is heard again.
The case was adjourned to May 19, 2025, for the hearing of the remand application.
