For alleged wilful damage of a part of a farm property and stealing of some sizable number of commercial tree stumps, a young man, Adeola Akinola has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Akure.

The charge sheet read in part “that you, Adeola Akinola along with others now at large conspired together to commit felony to wit stealing..”

According to the charge sheet, the accused person and others were alleged to have stolen 10 stumps of economic trees valued at one million naira, property of one Alimodu Solomon on the 9th of September, 2018.

He was alleged to have on the same date, time and place damaged 120 stumps of cocoa trees valued at two million naira and another 20 stumps of kolanut, 50 stumps of oranges valued N450,000 property of one Mariam Fagbemi.

The accused person pleaded “not guilty” to all the count charges that were preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Ayoola Makinde told the court that the case was a fresh matter which he would need sometime to study.

He therefore asked for an adjournment to enable him prepare for the case and assemble his witnesses while intimating the court that he would be calling four witnesses in the case.

The defense counsel, A.A Obolo said he was not opposed to the motion for adjournment but prayed the court to grant bail to his client as the case was a minor case he hoped they would be able to settle out of court.

He promised that his client would not jump bail and that they would soon come to inform the court of the reconciliatory moves between the parties.

The presiding magistrate, Magistrate J.O Adedapo granted bail to the accused person in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum who must have relationship ties with him.

The case was thereafter adjourned to the 2nd of October, 2018.
