Man drags wife to court over infidelity

A middle aged horticulturist, Mr Olayinka Abejoye, had approached an Akure Customary Court, seeking for the dissolution of his 15-year-old relationship with his estranged wife over what he called,”promiscuity.”
Abejoye alleged that his wife, Mrs Titilayo Abejoye, who bore five children for him, was unfaithful, as he had been seeing her with another man.
He lamented, ”My wife is irresponsible. I came home one day, and I met her with the man inside his car. Both of them were busy discussing in front of my house.
” When I confronted her, she could not give me any reasonable answer. She does not even have regard for me anymore.
“Whenever I sent my children on errands, my wife would go against it. There was a time I sent my first child on an errand, but he refused. I wanted to flog him, but my wife did not allow me. Later, my son went to cut my flowers.
“She hid my car key and I was searching for it. I asked her, but the next thing my wife did was to brake my windscreen. We are no longer compatible.”
However, the respondent, Titilayo, who refuted the allegation by her husband, told the court that she was not ready to leave her husband because she has no place to take the five children she has for him.
“My Lord, when I first met my husband, he impregnated me, but he instructed me to abort it that he was not ready for any responsibility.
” l lost two children in his house and my husband kept accusing me that I was the one responsible for their death. He started calling me a witch.
“He doesn’t want my family to come to our house. When I gave birth to my last twin, my mother brought me house-help, but he refused and told me he cannot be feeding five children including house help. It was my mother that paid for the house-help.
“He is not a responsible husband. He did not take care of his home. I’m the one paying our first child’s school fees,” she explained.
She told the court that her husband told her that they were no longer compatible because he has gotten another woman cooking for him.
So, she pleaded with the court not to dissolve the union because of the children.
The president of the court, Mr Oluwasegun Rottiba, ordered both parties to embrace peace and look for a way to settle the matter because of their children.
He berated the man for not giving birth to the number of children he could cater for, while he advised the woman to desist from what she taught could be the cause of the problem between them..
The court adjourned the case till July 27, 2020 for report of settlement or hearing.
