Man in court for alleged phone theft

A middle- aged man, Amos Fantim, has been dragged before an Akure Magistrates’ Court  charged with stealing two handsets.

Fanti, a  20-year-old security was accused of stealing one Nokia handset valued at N63,000 and one Samsung  phone valued at N50,000 property of one Esther Ebiwonjumi.

He was alleged to have stolen the handset at about 02:30 am at Ijapo Estate, Akure in the Akure Magisterial District, and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 399(9) of the Criminal Code cap 37. Vol. 1 laws of Ondo State 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing when it was read to him.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Adebayo Ayorinde, called three witnesses of which one was in court. He urged the court to grant him short adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble all witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant Mr.Kehinde  Orungbeja therefore applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Yakubu O.R, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one reasonable surety in like sum

She adjourned the case till April 2, 2019 for hearing.
