Man in court for assaulting police officer

A 34-year-old man, Rasaki Fatai, has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun State for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Fatai was arraigned on three-counts bordering on assault and unlawful possession

The police prosecutor, Mr. Adewuyi Kolawole, said the accused person committed the offence on June 25, 2019 around 9p.m. at Omo-West in Osogbo.

Kolawole alleged that Fatai pushed the complainant, ASP Femi Adeniyi into a gutter, while he was performing his lawful duty.

According to the prosecutor, the accused person was in possession of Cannabis Sativa while he also maliciously damaged a short riot gun belonging to the officer.

He said the offences contravened sections 356, 451 and 430 of the Criminal Law of Osun State, 2003.

The defense counsel, Mr Taiwo Awokunle urged the court to admit his client to bail in most liberal terms.

In her ruling the magistrate, Mrs Olatundun Oloyade, granted the accused person bail in the sum of 250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned till July 29, 2019.
