Man in court over alleged armed robbery

A 24 -year-old man, Arike Mumuni, has been ordered to be remanded in prison custody by an Akure Chief Magistrates Court sitting at Oke-Eda, over alleged armed robbery.
The accused was brought before Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, on a two count-charge of felony to wit armed robbery.
According to the prosecution, the acussed and others at large committed the offence within the month of January,2019 at No3, College road , Erekiti Igbokoda, within Okitipupa Magisterial district.
While armed with gun and dangerous weapons Mumuni was alleged to have robbed one Lobele Abiodun, and his wives, Mrs Oseyemi Lobele and Mrs Olaoluwa Lobele, of the following items, infinix hot 6 phone valued at N55,000, HP laptop valued atN140,000, infinix smart phone with N30,000.
Other items are, one Lenovo laptop valued N120,000, two T371 phone valued at N16,000 and a cash sum of N160,000, total valued at N521,000.
The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under section 6, 1(2) a&b of the robbery and forearms(special provision) act cap. R11 laws of the federation of Nigeria.
The plea of the accused was not taken when the charge was read to him.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Suleiman Abdullateef, urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending a legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) since the court has no jurisdiction over the matter.
Lawyer to the accused, Mr Joseph Arinju, did not oppose the remand application made by the prosecutor.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, who pointed out that it is a case of armed robbery which the court lacked jurisdiction, ordered the remand of the accused in Olokuta prison custody, pending the legal advice from the DPP’s office.
The case was adjourned till March 26, 2019 for review.
