Man kills brother over foodstuff dispute

Tragedy struck in Abagana community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday, when a 37-year old man, Anthony Kosisochukwu Okafor, allegedly killed his elder brother, Emmanuel Okafor, 45, following a disagreement over the sharing of foodstuffs.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 7pm at their family home in Adegbe Village, Abagana, when a heated argument between the siblings escalated, leading Anthony to stab Emmanuel in the chest with a stick, causing his death.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident on Saturday, revealing that the suspect had been apprehended by a joint security team comprising officers from the Abagana Police Division and operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG).
Ikenga disclosed that Anthony had confessed to engaging in a fight with his elder brother over foodstuffs.
“The suspect admitted to having an altercation with his brother over foodstuffs in the house. In the heat of the argument, he used a stick to pierce the deceased’s chest,” the PPRO stated.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
Describing the incident as disturbing, the police spokesman emphasised the importance of managing domestic disputes peacefully to prevent tragic consequences.
“The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” he added.
